Sep 10, 2009–Kazakhstan has announced its film for consideration for the foreign-language film Oscar category.
Helix Films is handling international rights to "Kelin," Kazakhstan's submission. The dialogue-free feature, from writer-director Ermek Tursunov, explores arranged marriage in the second century A.D. and is screening at the 2009 Toronto Film Festival.
The closing date for submissions to the foreign language category is October 1, 2008. Nominations will be announced February 2, 2009 and the Academy Awards telecast will take place on March 7, 2009.
