Oscar 2008: Denmark's Entry Is Worlds Apart

August 15, 2008–Denmark has announced its submission for the 2008 Foreign Language Oscar: Niels Arden Oplev's religious drama “To verdener” (“Worlds Apart”). The movie was a big hit in Denmark, with over 300,000 tickets sold.

Based on a true story, “To verdener” follows young Sara (Rosalinde Mynster), who comes from a family of Jehovah's Witnesses. When she falls in love with Teis (Pilou Asbaek), who is a non-believer, things become complicated.

Denmark was last nominated for an Oscar in 2006, for the family drama “Efter Brylluppet” (“After the Wedding”) from director Susanne Bier, who then followed up with her first American picture, “Things We Lost in the Fire.”
