Oscar 2007: Orphanage is Spain's Oscar Entry

September 28, 2007–Juan Antonio Bayona's supernatural thriller “The Orphanage” is Spain's candidate for the best foreign-language Oscar.

Produced by Rodar y Rodar and Telecinco Cinema, “Orphanage” was produced by Guillermo del Toro. “Orphanage” stars Belen Rueda (“The Sea Inside”) as a woman who takes over the orphanage where she was raised to open a home for disabled children. Then her young son begins to play with the same imaginary friend who terrorized her when she was a child.

Picturehouse will release “Orphanage” later this year, and it will be remade as English-speaking picture.
