Los Angeles: Wildfires Impact on Awards Shows, Movie Premieres

The Critics Choice Association Awards have been postponed again.

The show was originally scheduled to take place January 14 in Santa Monica and air live on E!. But due to the wildfires raging across Los Angeles, it was postponed last week to Jan. 26.

Now comes word that the ceremony is now being postponed again, to a later date, which has not yet been announced.

“This unfolding tragedy has already had a profound impact on our community. All our thoughts and prayers are with those battling the devastating fires and with all who have been affected,” Critics Choice Association CEO Joey Berlin said in a statement.

The event was set to be held at Barker Hangar, which is located just a few miles from the Pacific Palisades where thousands have been evacuated and many homes destroyed, along with a separate fire that is ravaging the Pasadena-Altadena area. Chelsea Handler is hosting the awards show for the third consecutive year, with WickedConclave and Shogun among the top nominees.

Critics Choice joins other Hollywood events that have been affected in recent days, including the Oscars nominations announcement, which has been pushed back twice now, to January 23.

Among the canceled events were premieres for Wolf Man and Unstoppable last Tuesday; Better ManThe Pitt and On Call on Wednesday; and The Last Showgirl on Thursday. The annual BAFTA Tea Party scheduled for Saturday in Beverly Hills was also canceled, and the AFI Awards, a luncheon honoring the 10 best movies and TV shows of the year, were postponed.

New York events have also been impacted, as American Primeval held a NYC event on Wednesday without its planned red carpet and hosted a screening and Q&A just for its cast and crew.
The New York premiere of Back in Action on Thursday was canceled and a NYC tastemaker screening for Goosebumps: The Vanishing was postponed, among other events.
