Oscar: Typecasting–Deborah Kerr

Deborah Kerr herself wanted the part of Karen Holmes for the same reason that aother actresses did.  She too was typically cast as the coolly elegant and reserved lady.  Director Fred Zinnemann’s decision to cast against type in “From Here to Eternity” became a turning point in Kerr’s career. After this part, she was able to demand any role, and the ensuing Oscar nomination enhanced her self-confidence as an actress.
