Indie Cinema 2007: Films Selling out of Sundance Film Fest

At the 2007, Sundance Film Fest, of the 8 movies that sold out for more than $2 million each, only one, “Waitress,” starring Adrienne Shelley, was commercially successful, earning for distributor Fox Searchlight $19 million at the box-office.

Paramount Vintage bought 2 films, “Son of Rambo” and “How She Move.”

Focus Features, then under the leadership of James Schmaus, overpaid for “Hamlet 2,” investing 10 million and losing a bundle when the film opened theatrically.

“Under the Same Moon,” acquired by Fox Searchlight and Weinstein Company, also proved to be a disappointment.
