“The Town,” the well-mounted, favorably received heist-crime picture from actor-writer-director Ben Affleck grabbed the top spot at the box office, earning about $8.3 million for Warner in 2,861 runs.
New Screen Gems-Sony picture “Easy A” was number 2, with an estimate of $6.8 million in 2,856 engagements.
Another new movie, Universal’s “Devil,” took No. 3 spot with about $4.9 million in 2,809 runs.
“Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D” from Screen Gems/Sony took in an estimate of $3 million, (about a 70 percent drop from last week’s opening number), in 3,209 runs.
Rounding out the top five was new Lionsgate picture, “Alpha & Omega,” which earned about $2.6 million in 2,625 engagements.
Screen Gems/Sony pic “Takers” came in at No. 6 with about $930,000 in 2,139 runs.
Focus Features “The American” got about $835,000 in 2,457 engagements.
Sony’s “The Other Guys” collected roughly $585,000 in 1,827 runs, while another Sony pic, “Eat Pray Love,” came in at No. 9 with about $520,000 in 1,668 engagements.
Warner-Chris Nolan’s psychological sci-fi thriller “Inception” came in at No. 10 with an estimate of roughly $500,000 in 1,305 runs.
