Roses, The: Jay Roach’s Remake of 1989 Hit Comedy (“War of the Roses”), Starring Oscar Winner Olivia Colman and Oscar Nominee Cumberbatch

‘War of the Roses’ Remake–Late Summer Release

Jay Roach directs the film, which includes Andy Samberg, Allison Janney and Ncuti Gatwa in its ensemble.

Jay Roach directs The Roses from a script by Poor Things and The Favourite writer Tony McNamara, which is based on Warren Adler’s 1981 novel.

The Adler novel was made into the 1989 dark comedy from Danny DeVito and starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner.

Life seems easy for picture-perfect couple Ivy (Olivia Colman) and Theo (Benedict Cumberbatch): successful careers, a loving marriage, great kids.

But beneath the façade of their supposed ideal life, a storm is brewing – as Theo’s career nosedives while Ivy’s own ambitions take off, a tinderbox of fierce competition and hidden resentment ignites.

The Roses will be opening alongside horror comedy The Toxic Avenger and Darren Aronofsky’s latest Caught Stealing, starring Austin Butler and Regina King.
