Nov 2, 2008–“Quantum of Solace” opened in the UK, France and Sweden this weekend and scored exceptional launches in all three territories, setting records along the way. The weekend estimate is $38.6 million on 2123 prints, generating more than $18,000 per print.
U.K.
The U.K. opening was truly spectacular. We did 15.4 million pounds U.K. FSS estimate is the biggest standard 3-day opening of all time, passing Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire's 14.934 million. This is 35% bigger than the 11.427 million pounds launch of Casino Royale. Quantum captured a massive 70% of the U.K. box office this weekend.
France
France's weekend estimate of 8.2 million euros beats Casino Royale's 7.056 by 16% for the biggest Bond launch ever, and in just 3 days. Casino Royales' opening was the standard French 5-day weekend. Here are 5-day figures for the top non-French openings earlier this year: Indiana jones 9.1, Dark Knight 6.3, Hancock 6.0. We expect to have three great days ahead in France, with the All Saint's holiday school break running through Nov.5.
Sweden
Sweden's 18.1 million SEK 3-day weekend is that country's 4th biggest FSS ever, behind only Lord of the Rings 3(20.4), Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire(19.3), and Pirates of the Caribbean 3(19.0). Our opening is 31% bigger than Casino Royale's 13.821 million SEK launch.
No other international release's in 2008 has grossed more than our 3-territory $38.6 million weekend with fewer than 27 territories.
“Quantum of Solace” expands into 57 additional markets next weekend, and opens in the U.S. November 14, 2008.
