The national selection committee, composed of ten representatives of the Belgian film industry and presided by Joëlle Levie, has officially nominated the film Our Children by Joachim Lafosse as Belgian entry for the 2012 Best Foreign Language Film Academy Award.
Struck by the sustained quality of the production, the strenght of its issue force and by the aptness of the writing and acting, the committee also decided to nominate actress Emilie Dequenne for her stirring performance.
This Versus Production production, coproduced by Prime Time, was made with the support of the Centre du Cinéma et de l’Audiovisuel and the Flemish Audiovisual Fund. The film was selected at prominent film festivals including Cannes (Best Actress in Un Certain Regard section), New York, London, Saint Petersburg, Our Children, the international sales of which are handled by Les Films du Losange, is actually in theaters in Belgium (O’Brother Distribution) and in France (Les Films du Losange) and is sold in a dozen countries.
On January 15, 2013 the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) will announce the line up of films that will compete for the Best foreign language film award during the 85th Academy Award ceremony, which is scheduled February 24th, 2013 at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.
