Fox Searchlight Pictures has picked up the rights to Chloe Zhao’s anticipated follow-up to her lauded second feature, The Rider, a highlight of indie cinema last year.
Starring Frances McDormand in her first role after winning the Best Actress Oscar last year, Nomadland features the actress in a new vision of the American West.
The film is described as “a road movie following Fern, a woman in her sixties, who after losing everything in the Great Recession embarks on a journey through the American West, living as a van-dwelling modern-day nomad.
The film includes non-professionals turned actors including Linda May and Charlene Swankie. The film also stars David Strathairn.
