ID Communications Inc. announces acquisition of “Red Shirley” documentary directed by Lou Reed, it was announced today. On the eve of her 100th birthday, Rock musician Lou Reed sat down with his cousin Shirley for a tête-à-tête.
“I had a chance to see the film when it played a couple months ago at Montreal’s RIDM documentary festival. Lou was in attendance taking Q&A after the film from a packed house. The film was really warmly received and has been presented at numerous other major events including Sundance. We are thrilled to be associated with the project and this is the film’s debut market. ” said ID’s principal, Dan Shannon.
“Traversing nearly the entire 20th century, 2 world wars, my cousin’s story sort of unfolds like a tapestry. Despite her 100 years, she is still razor sharp on the details of key historic occasions she was involved in… I just thought this should be shared.” says Mr. Reed.
“Red Shirley” is expertly lensed by Ralph Gibson with music by Lou’s ‘Metal Machine’ bringing out a particularly vibrant portrait not just of a person but an era, and a voyage from old Europe to America.” says Mr. Shannon.
The film will be presented to key buyers from around the world at the Berlin Film Festival’s EFM market.
