King Kong: Skull Island–3D Origins Story in the Works

“Birdman” star Michael Keaton is in negotiations to join “Kong: Skull Island” for Universal and Legendary.

The King Kong origins project is set to open on March 10, 2017 and will be released in 3D.

The studio and Legendary announced “Skull Island” during Comic-Con in July, then disclosed in September that Tom Hiddleston on board to star with Jordan Vogt-Roberts directing.

John Gatins (“Flight”) and Max Borenstein (“Godzilla”) wrote the script, set in King Kong’s home as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the primordial island.

Legendary said the story honors the foundations of existing King Kong lore created in the iconic 1933 film.

Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni will produce and Alex Garcia will exec produce.

Universal decided last month to move “Skull Island” back four months and cast J. K. Simmons (“Whiplash”) as co-star.
