Like every other Hollywood studios, Warners, like other studios, is reshuffling its release slate due to the Coronavirus, which forced the closure of theaters in March, expected to last through June (or beyond).
Warners’ big-screen musical In the Heights has a new release date, June 18, 2021.
Quiara Alegria Hudes and Marc Klein wrote the screenplay. Jon M. Chu is directing the movie adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s popular 2008 Broadway musical.
In the Heights centers on bodega owner (Anthony Ramos) who is conflicted about closing his store and retiring to the Dominican Republic after he inherits his grandmother’s fortune.
The film originally had been set to open June 26, 2020, but it was pulled from this year’s calendar because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Corey Hawkins, Melissa Barrera, Leslie Grace, Jimmy Smits, Olga Merediz, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Stephanie Beatriz and Dascha Polanco round out the cast.
Warners is delaying the Batman reboot, directed by Matt Reeves, from June 25, 2021, to October 1, 2021.
