Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs–Biggest International Bow

July 5, 2009–Fox's 3-D animated “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs” scored the biggest international opening of all time for an animated title.  Domestically, it tied with Paramount's “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” for No. 1 at the box-office over the July 4 weekend.

Overseas, “Ice Age 3” grossed $148 million as it opened on 11,652 screens in 101 markets. Its domestic weekend take was $42.5 million for a five-day opening cume of $67.5 million.  Worldwide opening figure is $215.5 million.

“Transformers 2” grossed about $42.5 million for the weekend for a  cumulative figure of $293.4 in 12 days.  Internationally, the action blockbuster grossed $55.3 million for a foreign cumulative of $298 million and worldwide total of $591.4 million.

Universal's Michael Mann-Johnny Depp gangster epic “Public Enemies” also did strong business at the domestic box office, grossing $26.2 million from 3,334 runs for a five-day opening $41 million.

Both “Public Enemies” and “Ice Age 3” opened on Wednesday to get a jump on the July 4 holiday.  Because the holiday landed on a Saturday this year, theater traffic dropped drmatically on Saturday.
