Flag Day: Sean Penn’s New Film at 2021 Cannes Film Fest (Preview)

Flag Day, Sean Penn’s latest film, will world-premiere at the 2021 Cannes Film Fest.

The premise:

Flag Day offers a portrait of a daughter struggling to overcome the loving yet dark legacy of her conman father.

Jez Butterworth (“Edge of Tomorrow”) wrote the screenplay, which is based on Jennifer Vogel’s 2005 memoir “Flim-Flam Man: The True Story of My Father’s Counterfeit Life.”

Some of the filming of the movie–a graduation ceremony–took place at the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg on August 1 2019.

Filming had begun in June, with the cast including Penn and his children Dylan Penn and Hopper Penn. Josh Brolin, Miles Teller and Katheryn Winnick are also among the cast.

The film is being produced by William Horberg, Jon Kilik and Fernando Sulichin.
