Romanian Films: New Romanian Wave–Winning Awards

In 2005, Cristi Puiu’s The Death of Mr. Lazaresco made strong impression at the Cannes Film Fest, reaffirming the significance of what became became known as the Romanian New Wave.

Several years later, he showed to great acclaim, Stuff and Dough.  However, this year marks the first appearance of the director in Cannes Fest’ prestigious main competition: Sieranevada.

Sieranevada will premiere alongside  Graduation, the latest from fellow Romanian and Palme d’Or winner. Cristian Mungiu’s 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days.

Another Romanian director, Bogdan Mirica, will show his feature, Dogs, in Cannes Fest’s sidebar, Un Certain Regard.
