Cannes Film Fest 2024: Critics’ Week
Writer-director Constance Tsang’s first feature, Blue Sun Palace, is a story about inevitable dislocation and the devastating effects of displacement.
The tale enters on three Chinese immigrants in Queen, a construction company employee and two colleagues at a massage parlor.
Tsang clearly understands the plight of her expat characters, and when the sudden absence of one of them occurs, the tale sets everything askew.
It’s a relevant drama that grapples with the question of how to go on, and how to survive with your humanity (and soul) intact–despite dire circumstances.
