Oscar Actors: Blanchett Honored at 2013 N.Y. Film Fest

Aug 22, 2013–Cate Blanchett and Ralph Fiennes will be honored at the 2013 New York Film Festival as the subjects of this year’s gala tributes.

Fiennes will be honored in conjunction with the NYFF screening of “The Invisible Woman,” the biographical drama he helmed and in which he stars as Charles Dickens.

Blanchett, currently winning raves for her toplining role in Woody Allen’s “Blue Jasmine,” isn’t appearing in a film as part of this year’s 35-film main slate, but the gala in her honor will feature clips from her film work as well as an onstage discussion with the actress.

The Blanchett and Fiennes galas, each set for an October date during NYFF’s 17-day run, join three other gala screenings of titles from the main slate, already announced. “Captain Phillips,” the Paul Greengrass pirate drama starring Tom Hanks, will open the fest, with Ben Stiller’s directorial debut “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” tapped for the centerpiece and Spike Jonze’s “Her” set to close out the 2013 fest.

The Blanchett event is scheduled for October 2, and the Fiennes gala on October 9.
