Linklater Honored with Career Achievement

June 16, 2007–Richard Linklater will receive the second annual Prix Chateauneuf at the 24th Avignon Film Festival, which runs June 21-24.
Linklater's early film “Slcakers” was shown there some 15 years ago.

The award consists of a case of the venerable Rhone Valley libation delivered to the winner's home annually for the next 10 years.

The choice of the indie filmmaker (“Slacker,” “Dazed and Confused”), who has also directed studio pictures (“School of Rock”) was made by the Federation of Wine Growers of Chateauneuf du Pape, who consider their profession as independent vintners in tune with the sensibility of a filmmaker like Linklater, or John Turturro, the first recipient.

The fest shows U.S. and European indie features, as well as docus, and has a shorts competition.
In addition to Linklater, Tom DiCillio will be on hand for a mini-retrospective, including his latest “Delirious.”
