All In: The Fight For Democracy
Directors: Liz Garbus, Lisa Cortés
Liz Garbus and Lisa Cortés’ “All In: The Fight for Democracy,” a timely, relevant docu probing voting suppression in America, will be released prior to Election Day, November 3.
Amazon Studios will release the feature September 9 and launch on Prime Video September 18.
“All In” features Stacey Abrams, the country’s first Black female gubernatorial nominee for a major party and founder of Fair Fight Action, an organization fighting voter suppression.
Abrams also produces alongside Garbus and Cortés.
Revisiting the history of voter suppression, “All In” delves into “a problem that has corrupted our democracy from the very beginning,” a press release describes. “With the perspective and expertise of Stacey Abrams, the former Minority Leader of the Georgia House of Representatives, the documentary will offer an insider’s look into laws and barriers to voting that most people don’t even know is a threat to their basic rights as citizens of the United States.”
#ALLINFORVOTING
The filmmakers are working with Amazon Studios on #ALLINFORVOTING, a social media campaign battling misinformation about voting, educating first-time voters, encouraging communities to vote, and training citizens how to recognize and report voter suppression.
#ALLINFORVOTING will involve an online hub of voting resources and information, a local grant program for community vote mobilization, and a “Grow a Voter” education initiative.
“We are thrilled to officially announce ‘All In: The Fight for Democracy’ which will tell a powerful and harrowing story of the fight for the right to vote as well as arm citizens with the tools they need to protect this right,” said Garbus and Cortés. “The film will be accompanied by an ambitious and visionary action plan to reach voters and educate them across the nation.”
Abrams added, “This is a pivotal moment in our mission to protect our democracy – and we need to come together as a country and make sure every voice and vote is counted. The title ‘All In: The Fight for Democracy’ emphasizes the importance and necessity that every American has the right to have their voice be heard and their vote counted. We know that if our votes were not important, so many folks wouldn’t be working so hard to take our right to vote away.”
Garbus received Oscar nominations for “What Happened Miss Simone?” and “The Farm: Angola, USA.”
She won an Emmy for the former and scored an Emmy nomination for the latter. Her latest project, true crime docuseries “I’ll Be Gone in the Dark,” will air its finale August 2 on HBO.
Cortés’ feature directorial debut, “The Remix: Hip Hop X Fashion,” is now on Netflix. “Precious,” “The Apollo,” and “Shadowboxer” are among her producing credits.
Abrams became the Democratic nominee for Governor of Georgia in 2018, after winning more votes than any other Democrat in the state’s history. She is the first Black woman and first Georgian to deliver a Response to the State of the Union, and a recipient of the John F. Kennedy New Frontier Award.
