Cannes Film Fest president Pierre Lescure and artistic director Thierry Frémaux unveiled the official selection of the world’s most prestigious festival early Thursday morning.
The 72nd Cannes Film Fest unveiled its lineup, raising the number of female filmmakers in official selection to 13, four of them will compete for the Palme d’Or, the highest number since 2011.
New movies by Pedro Almodóvar and American directors Terrence Malick and Ira Sachs join Elton John biopic “Rocketman” and the previously announced opening night, Jim Jarmusch’s “The Dead Don’t Die.”
The session began with a tribute to director Agnès Varda, who is featured in this year’s poster, noting the pioneering spirit of Varda, who died last month at 90.
