Silent Friend (2025): Ildikó Enyedi’s Time-Shifting Narrative, Follow-Up to “On Body and Soul” (*AMOUR*)

Silent Friend, Ildikó Enyedi’s time-hopping follow-up to On Body and Soul (2017), traces three lives from different historical periods connected by the same Ginkgo biloba tree.

Starring Tony Leung Chiu-wai, Léa Seydoux, Luna Wedler, Sylvester Groth and Martin Wuttke, it follows a single tree through three loosely connected stories in different eras: 1908, 1972, and 2020.

The film offer a distinctive meditation on loneliness, shared consciousness, and our comolex connection with the natural world.

The film had its world premiered at the 2025 Venice Film Fest on, where it won the FIPRESCI Prize and the Marcello Mastroianni Award for actress Luna Wedler.

At 70, Enyedi (born November 15, 1955), the Hungarian director and writer, is at the peak of her career, though claiming a small body of work.

She is best known for directing On Body and Soul, which won the top prize at the Berlin Film Fest, and was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Oscar Award.
