Vincent Price plays a millionaire named Frederick Loren in House on Haunted Hill.

The haunted house tale follows his oddball proposal for five guests to survive the night at a possibly haunted mansion. If one survives the night of increasingly bizarre scares, they win ten grand each.

The plan involves ghouls and tricks, and also features estranged lover and murder scheme.

House on Haunted Hill benefited from shrewd marketing: theaters used never-before-seen gimmicks to engage the audience, including a plastic skeleton floating above the seats.
The movie, which blends suspense and horror, has gained cult-classic status since its release.
The concept has re-emerged in pop culture countless times, and a remake came out in 1999.
