Red One is the first proper Christmas movie to play in theaters since before the pandemic, when The Grinch opened in 2018.

Von Horn described his third feature, after The Here After (2015) and Sweat (2020), as a “fairy tale for grownups” aimed at “flirting” with genre. And indeed, the movie is a somber and dark, yet also poetic, fable.

This third package film, following Saludos Amigos and The Three Caballeros, was entered into the 1946 Cannes Film Fest.
