Skyfall: Over $1 Billlion and Still Running Strong

Sony-MGM’s 23rd James Bond pic “Skyfall” became the 14th film ever to reach $1 billion globally, with a domestic cume of $289.6 million and $710.6 million internationally.

“Skyfall” is the third pic this year to hit that mark, after “The Avengers” and “The Dark Knight Rises,” marking the second straight year during which that many pics have done so. This year could have another billion-dollar player—“The Hobbit,” which so far has cumed nearly $700 million globally.

For “Skyfall,” the global box-office story is hardly over: The film still has to bow in China likely during late January or early February. “Skyfall,” by far, is the highest-grossing James Bond film.

“To see a film connect with audiences is always gratifying but the success of this film is nothing short of extraordinary,” said Sony worldwide marketing and distribution chief Jeff Blake. “We couldn’t be more excited for Michael Wilson, Barbara Broccoli, Sam Mendes, Daniel Craig, and especially the fans who put James Bond in this very rare and very exclusive billion dollar box office club.”
