‘Sinners’ Trailer Shows a Mysterious Michael B. Jordan
The frequent collaborators return to theaters in March.
Ryan Coogler has cast Michael B. Jordan in the boxing ring and transported him to Wakanda. Now he is casting him in Sinners, the vampire feature made by Warner.
In the mysterious preview, Jordan’s Smoke says via voiceover, “I’ve been all over this world. I’ve seen men die in ways, I ain’t even know was possible.”
He adds, over footage of people running from some unseen danger and someone showing up at church with their face scratched, “Of all the things that I’ve seen, I ain’t ever seen no demons, no ghosts, no magic — ’til now.”
The trailer ends with Jordan leading a group of people ready to fight as a preacher says, “You keep dancing with the devil, and one day he’s going to follow you home.”
The synopsis, which teases a “new vision of fear,” reads: “Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers (Jordan) return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back.”
Coogler wrote and directed the film that also stars Hailee Steinfeld, Jack O’Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Omar Benson Miller and Delroy Lindo.
Warner Bros. won the rights to the film after a bidding war in February, with the unique provision that returns the rights to the filmmaker after a number of years.
And Jordan was by his side as the villain Kilmonger as Coogler stepped into superstar filmmaker status with 2018’s Black Panther, the groundbreaking Marvel Studios film that earned a best picture nom. Jordan also had a brief cameo in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2021). In the years since, Jordan has become a filmmaker in his own right, directing Creed III.
