Fox has released the first teaser trailer for triple Oscar winner Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s The Revenant.

THe stunningly looking epic shows off star Leonardo DiCaprio‘s action scenes and survival strategies.

One of the most eagerly-awaited pictures of the year, The Revenant is the first collaboration between Hollywood’s hottest director (winner of three Oscars for Birdman) and hottest actor (three-time Oscar nominee)

The film also co-stars Tom Hardy, Domhnall Gleeson and Will Poulter

A harrowing survival story set in the early nineteenth century, the tale is based on the experiences of fur trapper Hugh Glass.

Inarritu and Mark L. Smith wrote a screenplay based on Michael Punke‘s 2002 novel, The Revenant: A Novel of Revenge.

The Revenant hits theaters December 25, in time for consideration for major Golden Globes and Oscar Awards.
