Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow will return for the 2017 movie season.
“Pirates of the Caribbean 5″ will sail into theaters on July 7, 2017, Disney Studios said Wednesday.
The Pirates movies have made $3.7 billion at the global box office and made Johnny Depp a superstar, so it’s easy to see why Disney wants to board the Black Pearl once more.
The latest installment in the buchaneer franchise has the date to itself, but faces competition from the July 14th release of “Fantastic Four 2″ and the June 30th debut of “Despicable Me 3.”
Disney has been getting way out ahead when it comes to dating its films. Last Friday it announced release dates for a quintet of untitled Marvel films, so get ready to enjoy the last of those come 2019.
“Pirates of the Caribbean 5″ was originally slated for a summer 2015 release date, but was pushed back over script issues. In the meantime, producer Jerry Bruckheimer ended his long-term deal with Disney last year and decamped for Paramount.
