Cannes Film Fest 2018: Girls of the Sun–Worst Film in Competition and in Entire Edition

Eva Husson’s female driven drama, Girls of the Sun, is easily the worst film that was in competition at this year’s Cannes Film Fest.  It’s also the weakest, most manipulative feature I have seen in all the series.

It’s too bad that in the year of #MeToo and #Time’sUp, Girls of the Sun is one of the  three films directed by women, and its even worst that it deals with an interesting theme: A group of Kurdish female soldiers fighting against ISIS.

Our grade: D (* out of *****)

The film doesn’t even work as a female camaraderie story between two vastly different women, wasting the respective actresses that played the lead roles.

It’s a worthy cause about a subject that’s little known in the Western world, but the execution is so poor, the dialogue so simplistic, and the sappy ending so incongruent to what precedes it, that its end result was sheer embarrassment, not to mention a dull and boring actioner!
