Brilliant filmmaker Alfonso Cuaron, with Oscar nominations as producer, director, writer, and cinematographer for Roma, has tied an Academy Awards record, previously shared only by Warren Beatty, Alan Menken, and Joel and Ethan Coen.
Getting four individual nominations for a single film remains a milestone in Oscar history.
Warren Beatty previously pulled it off on two separate films, for 1978 comedy Heaven Can Wait, and for the 1981 Reds.
Menken did it with in the 1991 Beauty and the Beast and the Coen Brothers with No Country for Old Men, in 2007.
Had the film been recognized for editing, Cuaron would have broken the record, or if the Academy officially recognized the directors of foreign-language nominees, rather than just the country of origin, the 57-year-old filmmaker.
With both, however, he’d have tied Walt Disney’s overall record for nominations in one year.
