Top nominees include ‘Lovecraft Country,’ ‘Mrs. America,’ ‘What We Do in the Shadows’ and ‘Schitt’s Creek.’
The Crown and Ozark lead the nominees for the 26th annual Critics Choice Awards in the TV categories.
The shows — each of which garnered six noms — help give Netflix the lead among streamers/networks overall, with a total of 26, followed by HBO/HBO Max with 24.
Other series with multiple noms include HBO’s Lovecraft Country, FX’s Mrs. America and What We Do in the Shadows and Pop’s Schitt’s Creek (last year’s Emmys favorite), each of which earned five noms. AMC’s Better Call Saul and HBO’s The Plot Against America are both up for four awards.
Ozark and The Crown will vie for best drama series and also earned multiple noms in the acting categories: best actor in a drama series (Ozark‘s Jason Bateman and The Crown‘s Josh O’Connor), best actress in a drama series (Ozark‘s Laura Linney and The Crown‘s Olivia Colman and Emma Corrin), best supporting actor in a drama series (Ozark‘s Tom Pelphrey and The Crown‘s Tobias Menzies) and best supporting actress in a drama series (Ozark‘s Julia Garner and Janet McTeer and The Crown‘s Gillian Anderson). (Ozark hails from MRC Television, which is a division of MRC Entertainment, a co-owner of The Hollywood Reporter through a joint venture with Penske Media titled P-MRC.)
Also vying for best drama series are Better Call Saul, CBS All Access’ The Good Fight, Lovecraft Country, Disney+’s The Mandalorian, HBO’s Perry Mason and NBC’s This Is Us.
On the comedy side, best series nominees are FX’s Better Things and What We Do in the Shadows, HBO Max’s The Flight Attendant, CBS’ Mom, Hulu’s PEN15 and Ramy, Schitt’s Creek and Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso.
Elsewhere, Mrs. America and The Plot Against America will compete for best limited series with HBO’s I May Destroy, Hulu’s Normal People, Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit, Amazon Studios’ Small Axe, HBO’s The Undoing and Netflix’s Unorthodox
The winners will be revealed in a ceremony airing March 7, from 7-10 p.m., on The CW. Taye Diggs returns as host for a third consecutive year. Film awards also will be handed out during the ceremony; those noms will be revealed Feb. 7. The organization said that the event will air live, but the format will be announced at a later date, as health and safety guidelines are taken into consideration.
