Oscar Actors: Portman, Natalie–Divorces Choreographer Husband Benjamin Millepied after 11 Years

The actress and choreographer were married for 11 years.

Oscar winner Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied are divorced.

The Oscar-winning actress filed for divorce from Benjamin Millepied, her director-choreographer husband of 11 years last July, and the divorce was finalized in France last month.

The two met on the set of the 2010 film Black Swan, which earned Portman an Oscar for best actress. Millepied was the choreographer on the film and helped Portman learn the ballet sequences for the role. Portman also won a best actress Golden Globe for the role and even quipped about their relationship in her acceptance speech.

Portman said, “Benjamin choreographed the film, and also you might remember him in the movie as the guy when they ask, ‘Would you sleep with that girl?’ And he’s like, ‘Pffsh, no.’ He’s the best actor. It’s not true: He totally wants to sleep with me!”

The then-pregnant actress also thanked Millepied in her Oscar speech, saying he “has now given me my most important role of my life.”

They married on Aug. 4, 2012. Portman and Millepied share a 12-year-old son and 7-year-old daughter.

The divorce news follows reports that Millepied had an affair. When addressing the conversation surrounding the rumors, Portman told Vanity Fair “It’s terrible, and I have no desire to contribute to it.”

Millepied is the choreographer on Dune: Part Two and made his feature-length directorial debut with Carmen, a 2022 musical drama starring Melissa Barrera and Paul Mescal that received terrible reviews

Portman recently starred in May December and received Spirit Award nomination for the role. She is currently filming the Guy Ritchie–directed film Fountain of Youth. Portman is also set to star in the limited TV series Lady in the Lake.
