War Game, The: Peter Watkins’ Powerful, Oscar Winning Documentary

Produced, written, and directed and produced by Peter Watkins for the BBC, The War Game is a powerful film that won the 1966 Best Documentary Oscar.

Its controversial subject matter–the horrific effects of nuclear war–caused a stir, forcing the BBC to withdraw its screening, scheduled for October 7, 1965.

Despite this decision, it was publicly shown abroad, and eventually aired on  July 31, 1985, the week before the 40th anniversary of the Hiroshima bombing.
