Strike a Pose (2016): Behind the Scenes of Madonna’s Background Dancers, Then and Now

The sleek, talented, and beautiful men featured in the background of Madonna’s “Blonde Ambition” tour and its seminal accompanying documentary, Truth or Dare, are now center stage in Ester Gould and Reijer Zwaan’s Strike a Pose.

This intriguing documentary dwells on the individual (and eccentric) personalities of Kevin, Oliver, Luis, Carlton, Jose, Gabriel, and Salim, the ethnically diverse group of young dancers.

Revisiting the men after years 0f being apart, this docu and provides insights into the emotional truth behind the glamorous surface.

I highly recommend that you watch Truth or Dare, a rewarding docu in its own right, before Strike a Pose, made 26 years later, and show revelatory changes in both the dramatis persona and in the broader socio-political-cultural contexts in which they lived and thrived.
