Stand Clear of the Closing Doors: Sam Fleischner Indie about Autistic Hispanic Boy

I caught Sam Fleischner’s low budget indie, Stand Clear of the Closing Doors, on DVD and would like to recommend it.

It centers on an autistic boy, about 13, who gets lost on the subway on the eve of Hurricane Sandy, back in October 2012.

We have seen films about autistic children but this one is about a Hispanic, a group that’s vastly underestimated in American cinema, both mainstream and indie.

Fleischner should be commended for his attention to detail of how ordinary New Yorker breathe, live, and work in an urban milieu that functions as a character in the tale.
