Red Dawn (2012): Dan Bradley’s Poor Remake of 1984 Movie, Starring Chris Hemsworth

Dan Bradley directed Red Dawn, based on screenplay by Carl Ellsworth and Jeremy Passmorea, a remake of the 1984 film.

Grade: C (*1/2 out of *****)

Starring Chris Hemsworth, Josh Peck, Josh Hutcherson, Adrianne Palicki, Isabel Lucas, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, the story centers on a group of youngsters who defend their hometown from a North Korean invasion.

Originally scheduled to be released on November 24, 2010, the film was shelved because of MGM’s financial troubles. While in post-production, the invading army and antagonists were changed from Chinese to North Korean in order to maintain access to the Chinese box office, though the film was still not released in China.

The film was released on November 21, 2012 to mostly negative reviews, resulting in box-office failure, grossing $51 million against its $65 million budget.
