FX’s The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story led the list of winners at the Television Critics Association’s 32nd annual awards Saturday night.
Going into the show with a leading four nominations (tied with USA Network’s Mr. Robot), the Ryan Murphy-Brad Falchuk anthology took three awards: individual achievement in drama for star Sarah Paulson; outstanding miniseries as well as program of the year.
The non-televised event, hosted by Jane the Virgin‘s Jamie Camil, was held at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, home of the three-week TCA summer press tour that is currently underway.
Other winners included Mr. Robot — honored for outstanding new program — as well as FX’s The Americans, which won the top drama prize for the second year in a row.
Other winners included breakout Crazy Ex-Girlfriend star Rachel Bloom, TBS’ Full Frontal With Samantha Bee and Netflix watercooler hit Making a Murderer. Grace and Frankie star Lily Tomlin was presented with the career achievement award, while The Mary Tyler Moore Show was honored with the heritage award.
“This was truly a landmark season — not just for television, but for women in television,” TCA president and THR contributor Amber Dowling said. “We had an unprecedented amount of female winners this year, which is a testament to both the talented actresses who were honored tonight, as well as to the growing number of high-quality roles being created for and by women. It’s extremely encouraging to see this growing trend being embraced, accepted, and expanded upon, and I look forward to seeing even more of it in the future.”
