Oscar 2020: Queen & Slim, Starring Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith (Preview)

The Oscar season has not begun yet, but here are some films and performances that promise to be interesting and may become Oscar contenders.

If you want to know more about the Oscars and the Road to Gold, please read my book:

Queen & Slim will be released on November 27, 2019, at the height of the awards season, by Universal.

Lena Waithe wrote the script, based on a story by her and the notorious James Frey (“I lied to Oprah”)

Melina Matsoukas (who helmed Beyonce’s “Formation” music video) makes her directing debut with this romantic thriller, described as a cross between Bonnie and Clyde and Thelma & Louise, two cult crime-road movies.

Queen & Slim revolves around two strangers, played by Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith, who end up on the run together and in the process fall in love.

It all begins when during a couple’s first date, a police officer pulls them over, and life is never again the same.

British-born Daniel Kaluuya, who made a strong impression in Get Out and Widows, is a gifted actor who’s quickly becoming an international star.

The supporting class includes Chloë Sevigny, Flea, Bokeem Woodbine and Indya Moore.

The production company Makeready won a bidding war to co-finance the dramatic thriller film Queen & Slim.

Daniel Kaluuya as Slim
Jodie Turner-Smith as Queen
Bokeem Woodbine as Uncle Earl
