Oscar 2020: Best Picture–Potential Contenders

The Report, directed by Scott Z. Burn, tells the story of one man (played by Adam Driver), who fought against both the CIA and the White House to get his report published.

The time after 9/11 was one of the most difficult times in the history of America. The country was in massive upheaval and the sense of strong patriotism became the means of justification for all sorts of activities. The CIA had been actively working in catching the perpetrators to bring them to justice. However, their means of interrogation might have been debatable.

While preparing his report on the CIA’s Interrogation Program, Senate staffer Daniel Jones found himself in disagreement with their methods, working hard to bring their actions to light.

Depicting a dark chapter in American history, the film offers a timely and gripping account of one public servant’s crusade for accountability.

The film world premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Fest in January to critical acclaim.

Amazon acquired the film’s rights for the high price of $14 million.

In our charged political climate, the movie might succeed in sending out a strong anti-Trump message to liberal-minded viewers.

The film stars Adam Driver, a respected actor much in demand now.  He is supported by a reliable ensemble of pros: Jon Hamm, Jennifer Morrison, Annette Bening.

It is scheduled to be theatrically released November 15, 2019, at the height of the awards season, before streaming on Amazon Prime in November 29.
