Oscar 2019: Best Actress–Glenn Close or Lady Gaga

The 2019 Oscar nominations were announced on Tuesday, January 22.

The Academy Awards will air live February 24 at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET on ABC.

Full list of 2019 Oscar nominations:

Best Picture: Only 8 films (out of potential 10) made the final cut

“Black Panther”
“Bohemian Rhapsody”
“The Favourite”
“Green Book”
“A Star Is Born”

Best Actor:

Christian Bale, “Vice”
Bradley Cooper, “A Star Is Born”
Willem Dafoe, “At Eternity’s Gate”
Rami Malek, “Bohemian Rhapsody” (will win)
Viggo Mortensen, “Green Book”

The only fresh face among the five nominated actors is Rami Malek, for Bohemian Rhapsody.

This is Bradley Cooper’s fourth Oscar Nomination.

Christian Bale is already a Best Supporting Actor winner, for David O. Russell’s The Fighter, and Best Actor nominee.

Best Actress:
Yalitza Aparicio, “Roma”
Glenn Close, “The Wife”
Olivia Colman, “The Favourite”
Lady Gaga, “A Star Is Born”
Melissa McCarthy, “Can You Ever Forgive Me?”

Tight race between Glenn Close, at her seventh nomination, for the indie that few people saw, The Wife, and Lady Gaga, fresh face and newcomer, in her first nomination for A Star Is Born, Bradley Cooper’s critically acclaimed and commercially successful directing debut.

At the Golden Globes, Close won Best Actress for Drama, and at the recent Critics Choice, there was a tie between Close and Lady Gaga.

I think the winner will be Glenn Close.

Supporting Actor:
Mahershala Ali, “Green Book”
Adam Driver, “BlacKkKlansman”
Sam Elliott, “A Star Is Born”
Richard E. Grant, “Can You Ever Forgive Me?”
Sam Rockwell, “Vice”

Supporting Actress:
Amy Adams, “Vice”
Marina de Tavira, “Roma”
Regina King, “If Beale Street Could Talk”
Emma Stone, “The Favourite”
Rachel Weisz, “The Favourite”
