The new Magnificent Seven, Antoine Fuqua’s remake of the classic John Sturges 1960 Western, itself a remake of Akira Kurosawa’s superb Seven Samurai, is well-made, but too earnest, lacking freshness, humor, energy, verve, and even romance.
In short, it’s no fun watching the picture, despite its all-star cast, headed by Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt.
Sony will release this mediocre film on September 23. Our long review will appear this weekend.
