Filming has commenced on LETS TALK ABOUT SEX, a feature length documentary which takes a fresh, raw, and confronting look at attitudes towards sex and sexuality among America’s youth.
Every day 10,000 young Americans catch a sexually transmitted disease, 2400 young girls get pregnant, and 55 young people are infected with HIV.
The stark reality is that 70 per cent of young Americans are having sex by the time they are 19, with significantly more sexual partners than their peers in other developed countries. Most are active without adequate knowledge about safety and protection. Despite America’s deep fascination with sex, talking frankly can be a minefield. LETS TALK ABOUT SEX will directly address Americas biggest elephant in the room.
Renowned Australian photographer James Houston has been based in New York for eight years. Two years ago Houston launched MOVE FOR AIDS, a book and exhibition featuring New Yorks leading dancers, to raise money and awareness for HIV/AIDS. Houston now embarks on a journey around the U.S., profiling six young adults (from New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Washington DC and Arizona) to uncover what youth think and know about sex: whether they are “doing it” or not, the pressures they feel, the problems they face, the help they think they need – and how parents, teachers and communities see it from their perspective.
The film is directed by JAMES HOUSTON.
