Kong: Skull Island–Derek (Jurassic World) Connolly

After helping to reboot “The Jurassic Park” franchise for Legendary and Universal, writer Derek Connolly is touching up another classic.

The co-writer of Jurassic World is polishing Legendary’s Kong: Skull Island script. Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson star in the film, which is directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts. “Straight Outta Compton” star Corey Hawkins also recently joined the cast.

The project is a new telling of the King Kong story, centering on a team of explorers who venture into the mysterious island that is also the home of Kong.

King Kong is set to bow on March 10, 2017 with production set to start in the first quarter of 2016.

Connolly joins a list of scribes: Max Borenstein, John Gatins and Dan Gilroy previously worked on the script.

Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni are producing with Mary Parent.

Connolly is writing the script to “Jurassic World 2” with Colin Treverrow and also helped with Paramount’s “Monster Trucks.”
