Michael B. Jordan’s civil rights drama Just Mercy is released for awards considerations.
The Warner film, which also stars Jamie Foxx and Brie Larson, will bow in select cinemas on December 25 before opening nationwide on January 10. Originally, it was set for January 17.
Just Mercy is based on the New York Times best-selling memoir of the same name by Bryan Stevenson, a civil rights defense attorney and founder of the Equal Justice Initiative, who fights on behalf of the wrongly condemned and death-row prisoners trapped in the criminal justice system.
The film follows Stevenson’s first case, that of Walter McMillian, a black man who was sentenced to death for a crime he didn’t commit.
Jordan stars as Stevenson and got involved as exec producer, when director Ryan Coogler introduced him to Just Mercy helmer Destin Daniel Cretton.
