Sly Stallone, following his latest box-office hit, “The Specialist,” plays the titular role in “Judge Dredd,” a futuristic lawman renowned for his iron-fisted procedures. When Dredd is framed for murder by his enigmatic archrival, the entire planet finds itself on a deadly collision course, which only the fearless judge can alter.
Engineering a dramatic escape from the shuttle carrying him to his space imprisonment, Dredd sets out on a dangerous mission to stop the perpetrator from taking control, and in the process discovers a secret about his own origins.
Based on the popular British comic book, “Judge Dredd” aims at transporting moviegoers to a fascinating fantasy world with humor, action and visual efforts, but the end result is a diffuse, middling picture that’s not particularly engaging on any level.
