A slapstick comedy about a bunch of wannabe criminals in New York City, The Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight is the screen version of newspaper man Jimmy Breslins best-selling comic novel about a Brooklyn turf war.
The movie brings together such diverse stars as Jerry Orbach (TVs Law & Order, Crimes and Misdemeanors)), Jo Van Fleet (Oscar winner as Best Supporting Actress for East of Eden) Leigh Taylor-Young (TVs Peyton Place), Lionel Stander ( TVs Hart to Hart) and on-the-rise Robert DeNiro, in his first major screen appearance.
The film was ahead of its time, reaching theaters just months before “The Godfather” saga took the country by storm. Now with The Sopranos still at the height of its popularity, this satire about Mafia life is ready for rediscovery on DVD.
