Gotham Awards: ‘Lost Daughter,’ ‘Passing’ Lead Nominations
Other high-profile multiple nominees for the film and TV honors include ‘CODA,’ ‘The Green Knight,’ ‘Red Rocket,’ ‘Squid Game,’ ‘White Lotus’ and ‘Reservation Dogs.’
The 2021 Gotham Awards nominations have been announced.
Two Netflix titles, The Lost Daughter and Passing, lead this year’s film nominees with 5 nominations each.
They are followed by 3 nods apiece for Apple’s CODA and Kino Lorber’s Test Pattern.
Double film nominees include The Green Knight, Red Rocket, The Card Counter, C’Mon C’Mon, Shiva Baby and Zola.
On the TV side, Gotham Awards are the first groups to recognize buzzy new series Squid Game, The White Lotus and Reservation Dogs, which each scored two nominations.
Gender-Neutral Performance Awards
This is the first year that the independent film and TV awards are presenting gender-neutral performance awards–the organization announced over the summer it would make the change.
The film performance categories have also been restructured into outstanding leading and supporting awards. The Gotham Awards, which began recognizing TV series a few years ago, has also added two small-screen categories: the gender-neutral outstanding performance and best nonfiction series.
Executive director of the Gotham Film and Media Institute, which presents the awards, Jeffrey Sharp, said the gender-neutral categories arrive as the organization continues “to execute its mission to champion inclusivity and celebrate the boldest storytellers in the world.”
The 31st annual Gotham Awards will be presented on Monday, November 29 at the event’s longtime home of Cipriani Wall Street in New York.
It will mark a return to a fully in-person event after a hybrid virtual and in-person event in January of 2021.
Gotham Award nominees are selected by committees of film and TV critics, journalists, festival programmers and film curators.
Separate juries of writers, directors, actors, producers, editors and others directly involved in making films will determine the final award recipients.
Recent Gotham Award winners have included Oscar winners Nomadland, Marriage Story, American Factory, Moonlight, Spotlight and Birdman.
