Chadwick Boseman Posthumously Nominated for Best Actor Award

The late Black Panther actor died during post-production of the Ma Rainey film, which is directed by George C. Wolfe and about Ma Rainey, an influential blues singer in the 1920s. Boseman plays Levee Green, a talented trumpet player.

Boseman died Aug. 28, 2020, at the age of 43. His death shocked and devastated fans around the globe. On Monday, he was nominated for a best actor Oscar for his work in the picture.

Although he had been nominated for a slew of awards throughout his carer, including winning a Golden Globe this year for the same film, Monday marked the first time Boseman received an Oscar nomination.

Actors nominated in the same category include Riz Ahmed for Sound of Metal, Anthony Hopkins for The Father, Gary Oldman for Mank and Steven Yeun for Minari.

The 93rd Academy Awards are on April 25.
