Sundance Film Fest 2017–highlights
Kumail Nanjiani, the stand-up comedian, best known for the TV series Silicon Valley, proves that he can act and carry a movie on his shoulders in the serio comedy The Big Sick, the buzziest film at this year’s Sundance Film Fest.
Nanjiani partnered with his wife to write the autobiographical story of a Pakistani-comic forced to shake off his arrested development when his white girlfriend suffers a life-threatening illness.
The filmĀ landed the biggest deal of the festival, a $12.5 million pact from Amazon Studios, after an all-night bidding war, and will be released by Roadside Pictures.
